A Strong Woman

What's up folks....

A few months back, I was granted the privilege of returning to my old high school to speak on Becoming a strong woman: Winning with confidence and character.  I thought it would be interesting and informative, if I shared a few points on what I spoke about on here.We have society, media and modern feminism (most types) to greatly thank for the misconception of what it truly means to be a "strong woman". *insert sarcastic smile here* One of the obvious yet unspoken consequences of  these false conceptions are the negative notions that have been attached to the meaning of a "strong woman". Sadly, a lot of women do believe and follow this negative notion and that is why we see a lot of these women living by the attached stereotypes of a strong woman; these include single and lonely, tough, masculine, emotionless, icy and conniving.

Here's a few points on what I think it means to be a strong woman:

  1. A strong woman has CHARACTER. Her character is usually the first thing one notices about her.

  • Humility: She is always humble! She feels no need to brag or speak about how great she is. Let your worth speak for itself.
  • Respectable woman: She respects herself, she respects those around her, she respects everyone, whether they are older or younger.
  • Wise: She learns not only from her own mistakes, but other's mistakes as well. (I believe you don’t have to make all the mistakes in the world on your own. Learn from other’s mistakes too….you don’t have to fall in a hole to know how deep it is, learn from someone who was already in it.)
  • Perseverance: Her obstacles are not the end road for her, but rather they become her stepping stones. She sets her eyes on the goal and targets it. She learns from her mistakes and every time she falls she gets right back up only becoming stronger. She may fall 6 times but she gets up 7 times! She BEATS THE ODDS!
     2. A strong woman ACKNOWLEDGES HER SUPPORTERS.

  • Society, media and modern feminism (most types) says that a "strong woman" is an independent woman who doesn’t need anybody especially a man! She doesn't need anyone to depend on. I personally disagree because I believe: Behind every successful woman is a mentor, a role model, motivation, line of people backing her up. What makes her so strong is her power to acknowledge the people who are helping her and the ones pulling her back. In comparison to the quote that says "It takes a village to raise a child"….everyone needs supporters. She realizes who serves as her strength and motivation. And in return, she herself becomes a mentor to someone else.

***Note: Opinions are like belly buttons, everyone has one. This is just my opinion on this topic. If you want to share your opinion as well, by all means, please do so, but be considerate of others when expressing your thoughts.

What do you think characterizes a strong woman? What are your thoughts on this topic? What would you add or remove from the list? I would love to hear your thoughts!

  1. You're right. No one ever makes it on his/her own. It is a misconception for women to think that they can get support from anybody else but their men. A good man will certainly make a strong woman succeed.
